MFT faculty suggest that you spend about 3 hours outside of class for every hour spent in class.
To help you decide if you should remain in all of your classes, ask yourself: Can I reasonably get all of the work done by the end of the semester? Do I feel comfortable with the material, and do I believe I am gaining mastery over the concepts? But above all, talk with your professor and/or your advisor.
When you earn a grade below a B, deficiency points accumulate against you. Three or more deficiency points result in dismissal from the program. The breakdown of deficiency points is as follows:
- A – B = 0 points
- C = 1 point
- D/F = 2 points
Speak with your advisor about this decision. They will work with you to adjust your plan accordingly.

The MFT curriculum including electives, as designed, meets 蜜桃影像传媒有限公司网站 licensure requirements. You are allowed to take electives other than the ones offered by the program, but they must be graduate level courses (i.e. electives in psychology, business, art, etc.) and they must meet elective requirement for 蜜桃影像传媒有限公司网站 and/or other state licensure. MFTH 7650 designates elective courses. To graduate from the program you need 5 elective credit hours. As currently offered, there is a 3-credit elective, which is typically taken your first Fall, and two 1-credit courses, one in the Fall and one in the Spring, typically taken during your second year in the program. MFTH 7103 designates advanced theories seminar courses. To graduate, each student needs to complete 2 credits of this required course. As currently offered, both 1-credit courses are completed in Fall and Spring of your second year in the program.
The program requires that you pass two comprehensive exams. These comprehensive exams are for you to exhibit your knowledge up to the specific point you have reached in the program. Comprehensive Exam 1 is completed in your first year. Comprehensive Exam II is completed during your second practicum. Information about Comprehensive Exam II can be found in the MFT student handbook.
Yes, sometimes. There are some years in which faculty have been able to allow students to start practicum in the summer of the student's second year. This depends on the number of students needing to be enrolled in practica, which are kept to six students per practicum. This does not happen every year
Students can only begin internships once they are registered for MFTH 7600: Practicum in Marriage and Family Therapy. See Jessica Millican for more information regarding internships.
Somewhat. We are an COAMFTE accredited program, so the curriculum is standardized to meet accreditation requirements. If you wish to change your Plan of Study, please talk with your advisor.
